Phonics to Reading

From first letter sounds to first books: playful phonics that turns little listeners into confident readers.

Ages 2-7Beginner

A different way to learn to read

Reading starts with listening

At LearnX Academy, learning to read begins long before a child opens a book — with songs, rhymes and playing with sounds. Our youngest learners tune their ears first: hearing the beats in words, the sounds at the start of them, and the joy of a story read aloud.

Sounds, letters, then words

Children learn the sounds letters make, step by step, and practise blending those sounds into words — c-a-t, cat! As they grow, they build and break apart words, learn tricky words by sight, and read their first sentences on their own.

Play at every step

Every skill is practised through games, songs, movement and pictures, so little learners stay curious and confident. Specially trained teachers follow each child's pace — there's no rush, and every small win is celebrated.

Confident readers for life

At LearnX, phonics builds strong early literacy along with a lifelong love of stories — children who can sound out new words with confidence and pick up a book because they want to.

Frequently asked questions

Who is Phonics to Reading for?

Children aged 2–7, from first letters to first books. The youngest start with listening, rhymes and letter play; older children move on to blending sounds, tricky words and reading short books on their own.

Is my 2-year-old too young?

Not at all — at 2 and 3 the focus is on listening, songs, rhymes and playing with letters, with a parent or carer alongside. Children move on to reading words when they're ready, not at a set age.

What is phonics?

Phonics teaches children the sounds that letters make and how to blend those sounds together to read words, and to break words into sounds to spell them. It gives children a reliable way to work out new words for themselves.

Are the classes live?

Yes. LearnX classes are live and online, led by a teacher, so your child can listen, join in and get help as they go.

Do the games make sound?

Yes — the six phonics games read their questions aloud using your device's built-in voice, so children who can't read yet can still play. Tap "Sound off" in any game to mute it.

Can we try it first?

Yes — book a free trial class with the "Book a Free Trial" button on this page. You can also try the six phonics games above right now, no sign-up needed.
